The three-cushion world championship in 1978 was the 33rd tournament in this discipline of carom billiards and took place from May 1 to 6, 1978 in Las Vegas . It was the second three-cushion World Cup in Las Vegas after 1970 .

history

Raymond Ceulemans dominated the three-cushion World Cup again. He won title No. 15 with a new sensational world record in the general average (GD) of 1.679 . The performance of the competition was far below the new record. The Peruvian Humberto Suguimitzu was the only one who could endanger him a little. He was the only one who managed to score more than 50 points against Ceulemans. He lost with 60:52 in 40 shots. Ceulemans narrowly missed a new world record in the best individual average (BED) in the game against Nobuaki Kobayashi . He needed 25 shots for the 60 points, two shots too many for a new record. It was Ceulemans' 100th title in a major tournament. That was 25th world championship title in 32 European titles and 43 Belgian championships.

mode

“Everyone against everyone” was played with 60 points.
