The 2009 three-cushion world championship took place in Lausanne ( Switzerland ) from November 11th to 15th . It was the first in Switzerland in 81 years of the three-cushion World Cup.

history

There were two premieres at this world championship. For the first time a World Cup took place in Switzerland and for the first time Filipos Kasidokostas became a Greek three-cushion world champion. The win was well deserved as it also set all the tournament records. In the preliminary round, none of the favorites fell again for a long time. There were four Belgians in the quarter-finals who were qualified for the World Cup based on the world rankings. Unfortunately, there was not much to gain for the host Switzerland. In the end there was only 29th, 47th and 48th place . However, two Germans, Martin Horn and Christian Rudolph , made it to the round of 16 .

The tournament was played with 48 participants. The whole tournament was played on three sets of 15 points each. Third place was not played out.
