Duong Anh Vu (Vietnamese: Dương Anh Vũ) (born April 13, 1980 in Ho Chi Minh City , Vietnam ) is a Vietnamese three-cushion player and Asian champion.

Career

In his country, Duong Anh Vu is considered to be the pioneer of a new, internationally successful generation of Vietnamese billiards. Born in Vietnam's second largest metropolis, Ho Chi Minh City , with thousands of billiard halls, two of which are run by him, the "Anh Vu Clubs" (with 10 and 20 tables, respectively). In 2004 he played his first world championship.

At the Asian Games in 2006 Duong was able to get a podium for the first time in international tournaments. In the final he lost to the Japanese Ryūji Umeda and got silver, ahead of Kim Kyung-roul from South Korea. In St. Wendel he made it to the quarter-finals of the 2006 three-cushion world championship , where he was beaten by Belgian world champion Eddy Merckx by just 2: 3 sets. In 2007 Duong won his first of a total of six gold medals at the domestic three-cushion championships, followed by a second at the Southeast Asian Games and a third at the Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games in Macau, both in a single cover . A year later he was the first Vietnamese to win the Asian three-cushion championship. In the final he beat the Japanese Ara Tatduo with 3-0 sets. In 2010 he took third place in the group at the AGIPI Masters . At the Team World Cup 2012 he made it to the finals with team-mate Ma Juan Cong, but they failed there because of the superior Danes Tonny Carlsen and Thomas Andersen.

In 2017 he won gold in a field of 32 participants after participating in the Verhoeven Open at Million Dollar Billiards in North Hollywood, California. The following November, he won the bronze medal at the USBA International Tournament in Houston, Texas, behind winner and compatriot Mã Minh Cẩm , Pedro Piedrabuena and ahead of Trần Quyết Chiến . All players came from the just ended World Cup in Santa Cruz , Bolivia, where he made it to the round of 16, but had to admit defeat to Italian Marco Zanetti .

UMB lock 2019

In spring 2019 he signed a contract with the newly formed Professional Billiards Association (of Korea) PBA. Since the PBA is not a member of the Union Mondiale de Billard (UMB), players who take part in PBA tournaments are banned from participating in the tournament for one year, but no longer than three years. This ended his UMB season at the end of the 2018/19 season.
