Pedro Piedrabuena (born August 21, 1971 in Montevideo , Uruguay ) is an American billiards player .

Career

Before Piedrabuena became a US citizen, he won the Argentine Championship in 1991 and the national championship in his native Uruguay in 1992. Piedrabuena currently lives in San Diego , California, where he runs a Billiards College. After Sang Lee , he is the most successful American three-cushion player .

At the three-cushion World Cup in 2001 he made it to the round of 16 of the finals, but failed there on the Mexican Luis Miguel Ávila. Together with his teammate Mazin Shooni , he reached the 2nd place in the preliminary round at the three-cushion World Cup for national teams in 2007 . At the three-cushion World Cup 2009/4 Piedrabuena came under the last 32, but lost there to world champion Ryūji Umeda .

In 2012 he won the Triple Crown when he won all three important tournaments (USBA National Championship, Champion-of-Champios-Tournament, Verhoeven Open). In the latter tournament he first defeated the 21-time former world champion Raymond Ceulemans from Belgium, and then, albeit narrowly, in the final the multiple world champion Torbjörn Blomdahl from Sweden with 40:37 in 29 shots. He won the Champion of Champions Trophy in 2012 for the second time in a row and also played the top series of 16. He won the game against Mazin Shooni without a fight because his opponent was more than the allowed 15 minutes late for the tournament. The tournament management declared Piedrabueno the winner.

In February 2013 he is number 1 in the USBA ranking list.

Like most US players, Piedrabuena rarely takes part in international tournaments. At world championships he usually only occupies middle places. In July 2013 he played again for the first time in the Pan American Championship and was able to prevail in the final against the Colombian shooting star Huberney Cataño with 40:33. This gave him a huge jump from almost 70 places from 94 to 25 in the world rankings.

In 2017 Piedrabuena won the Pan American Championship in Quilmes , Argentina for the second time after 2013 in Cali, Colombia . In the final he prevailed against the Ecuadorian Javier Teran with 40:36 in 33 shots. He made up places in the world rankings and moved to 22nd place in the world.

UMB lock 2019

In spring 2019 he signed a contract with the newly formed Professional Billiards Association (of Korea) PBA. Since the PBA is not a member of the Union Mondiale de Billard (UMB), players who take part in PBA tournaments are banned from participating in the tournament for one year, but no longer than three years. This ended his UMB season at the end of the 2018/19 season.
