The Verhoeven Open Tournament 2012 was a Karambolageturnier in the discipline three cushion and found from 1 to 5 August at Carom Café in Flushing , Queens , New York City instead.

history

From 2005 to 2008 the Sang Lee International Open was held here in honor of the late three- cushion player Sang Chun Lee and organized by his widow . In 2012 Cindy Lee revived the tournament, but this time under the name "Verhoeven Open Tournament". The tournament is officially recognized by the United States Billiard Association (USBA) and UMB , and the USBA also awarded ranking points to US players. The winner was the American Pedro Piedrabuena who beat the seeded Swede Torbjörn Blomdahl with 40:37 in the final.

mode

The tournament was divided into three phases.

  1. Qualification - Round Robin Mode
  2. Final Round 1 - Round Robin mode
  3. Final round 2 - knockout system

In the qualifying round, eight players each met in eight groups (A – H). It was played on 25 points. The first two of the group advanced one round. Two players were drawn via lottery and an auction. In final round 1 the world number one Torbjörn Blomdahl from Sweden and honorary player Raymond Ceulemans from Belgium entered. There was then played in 2 groups of 10 players on 35 points. The five best in each case advanced. In final round 2, places 1–10 were played out, ie the first in the group played for victory, the runners-up for third place, etc. The game was played again to 35 points and to place 1 to 40 points. The entire tournament was played without a kick-off or shot clock.
