The Jennifer Shim International 2015 for women was a carom tournament in the three cushion discipline and took place from July 18th to 20th in New York , USA . This year the women's tournament of the Verhoeven Open ran for the first time under the name Jennifer Shim International .

history

In 2013, the tournament was organized for the first time as an independent tournament for women. However, the beginnings go back to 2005. Back then, the widow of the top American player of Korean origin, Sang Chun Lee , hosted the Sang Lee International Open in his honor . This tournament was only played until 2008, but saw its rebirth in 2012 under the name Verhoeven Open Tournament . In 2015 the women's tournament ran under the name Jennifer Shim International .

mode

The game is played in two preliminary round groups of 9 players each, in which all players had to compete against each other ( round robin mode ). The game is played on 25 points or 55 shots without a kick-off in the event of a win. If the game ends with less than 25 points, there is a follow-up. The first 4 players in each group play the winner in the knockout system. The game is played up to 30 points with no limit on the number of entries and no post-kick. Places three to eight will be played in playoffs.

Tournament commentary

Even if she suffered two defeats in the preliminary round against Sruong Pheavy and Orie Hida, the world and European champion Therese Klompenhouwer defended her title in New York. In the knockout round, Therese Klompenhouwer showed her great class and played a GD of 1.285 and left no opponent a chance. Sruong Pheavy, who was born in Cambodia and lives in South Korea, competed for the first time at an international tournament. With a second place in the final bill, the 25-year-old underscored her great talent. Therese Klompenhouwer expects her to be the strongest opponent in the next few years. The three-time world champion Orie Hida took third place.
