Coordinates: 38 ° 58 ′ 46 ″  N , 125 ° 43 ′ 55 ″  O Hana Electronics (Kor. 하나 전자) is a British-North Korean joint venture between the North Korean Ministry of Culture and Phoenix Commercial Ventures Ltd. , which produces consumer electronics .

history

In May 2003 Phoenix Commercial Ventures Ltd. together with the Ministry of Culture in North Korea a joint venture to produce consumer electronics. Both partners each hold 50% shares. 2004 was the official start of production. Last 200 people were employed here. In the first quarter of 2011, the company moved into a newly constructed company building north of Tongil Street on the south side of the Tongil market in Pyongyang . According to their own comments, this joint venture is one of the three most successful in North Korea.

In addition, unusual standards such as:

  • Advertising - the Hana logo and the address can be found on every device and packaging
  • Guarantee - six months on all devices
  • Distribution - branches and sales outlets nationwide

Termination of the joint venture

On September 3, 2015, the British partner (Phoenix Commercial Ventures Ltd.) announced the termination of the joint venture with immediate effect due to "[...] irreconcilable differences [...]". The company appears to be still active, according to an article by Naenara .

Branches

Larger branches were u. a. in Chongjin , Hamhung and offices in Namp'o , Sariwon and Sinuiju . A further expansion was or is planned.

The headquarters are in the Pyongyang district of Rakrang-guyŏk ( Chungsong-dong ).

Remarks

There are various leisure activities for employees such as a swimming pool, sauna, bar and a hairdressing salon. The company still operates the Hana Music Information Center and a restaurant called The Restaurant at Hana , which is accessible to everyone.

Kim Jong-il conducted one of his typical inspections here on December 15, 2011.
