The three-cushion world championship in 1989 was the 44th edition of the three-cushion world championship, which has been held in the three- cushion pile-up variant since 1928 .

In 1989 it took place in the form of five World Cup tournaments . It was the World Cup in

  1. Deurne (Belgium) 10-12 November
  2. Berlin (Germany) 24. – 26. November
  3. Palma (Spain) 1st – 3rd December
  4. Las Vegas (USA) 10-12 December
  5. and the final in Yokohama (Japan) on April 14-16. December.

This season, for the first time, an international three-cushion tournament took place in Yokohama. The French Richard Bitalis won the only World Cup tournament of his career.

A total of 31 billiards athletes took part in all tournaments. It was played on 3 winning sets of 15 points each.

World ranking points were awarded for the tournaments (see points key). The best of all tournaments was the new world champion. The Belgian Ludo Dielis became world champion with a total of 180 world ranking points.
