The three-cushion world championship in 1976 was the 31st tournament in this discipline of carom billiards and took place from May 25th to 30th, 1976 in Ostend . It was the second three-cushion World Cup in Ostend after 1964.

history

Raymond Ceulemans won despite being tied with Nobuaki Kobayashi with the new world record of 1,500 in the general average (GD). Ceulemans suffered the only defeat against the Japanese champions and World Cup newcomer Junichi Komori . In the last round of the tournament there was the decisive game for the world title. Kobayashi, still undefeated, was enough to win the title with a draw. After 16 shots it was also 31:17 for Kobayashi. Then the defending champion from Belgium improved and finally won 33 shots with 60:37. For the first time in the history of the three-cushion World Cup, the tournament average was over 1,000 GD.
