The three- cushion world cup 1989/5 was the 5th and last world cup tournament in the fourth year of the three- cushion world cup. It took place from December 14 to 16, 1989 in this discipline of carom billiards in Yokohama , Japan . It was the first three cushion World Cup tournament in Yokohama.

history

The decisive World Cup tournament for the three-cushion world championship was hard to beat in terms of tension. The leader Ludo Dielis was ahead on points and was drawn in the first round against his compatriot and record world champion Raymond Ceulemans . Since Torbjörn Blomdahl had already won his first round match against Marco Zanetti , a win was absolutely necessary. With a class performance, Dielis won with an average of 1.727. In the quarterfinals, Blomdahl and Dielis certainly won 3-1 sets. In order to become the new world champion, Dielis had to win the semifinals to secure the title. With the tournament best of 2.041 he succeeded against Jun'ichi Komori . In terms of points, he could not be removed from the throne even in the event of a defeat. There was also a lack of concentration in the final. There was a straight 4-0 defeat. Ludo Diels became three-cushion world champion for the second time since 1981.

The exact price money could not be determined from the documents. However, as in all BWA World Cup tournaments, it was at least 100,000 DM.
