The three- cushion world cup 1998/7 was the sixth UMB / BWA world cup tournament in the 13th year of the three- cushion world cup. The tournament took place from September 24 to 27, 1998 in this discipline of carom billiards in Torremolinos , Andalusia . After five tournaments in Palma it was the sixth three-cushion World Cup tournament in Spain.
history
The Swede Torbjörn Blomdahl won his 26th World Cup tournament in the Andalusian seaside resort of Torremolinos. In the final, he defeated Eddy Leppens from Belgium with a 3-2 set. His biggest rival Dick Jaspers failed, as in Bogotá, in the round of 16 and lost important points in the overall World Cup title. Record world champion Raymond Ceulemans made it to the podium again and with 1.516 the best average of the tournament. The Turk Semih Saygıner , who shared third place with Ceulemans , is getting better and better . The two Germans Christian Rudolph and Martin Horn , who both reached the quarter-finals, played a good tournament . Very unlucky, the Austrian Andreas Efler retired in the first round. Against Saygıner he lost very tightly in the fifth set with 14:15 in five shots and played the very good average of 1.729.

^ Heinrich Weingartner: Billiards . No. 110 . Vienna December 1998, p. 9-11 .
The three-cushion World Cup was organized by the founding association, the "
Billiards Worldcup Association " (BWA) until 1998 . Disputes between the BWA and the world association
Union Mondiale de Billard (UMB) led to parallel tournaments between 1994 and 1997. The UMB / BWA organized the tournament together until the beginning of 1999. Since the dissolution of the BWA in 1999, the UMB has been the sole organizer.
From 1988-1991 the UMB did not host any world championships. During this time, the annual overall winner of the World Cup was crowned world champion.
