The three- cushion World Cup 1995/9 was the fourth BWA World Cup tournament in the tenth year of the three- cushion World Cup. The tournament took place from December 8th to 10th, 1995 in this discipline of carom billiards in Istanbul . It was the third three-cushion World Cup tournament in Istanbul.

history

The Swedish world number one Torbjörn Blomdahl was once again able to demonstrate his exceptional position. Since his greatest competitor for the overall World Cup in 1995, Raymond Ceulemans , had reached the final relatively safely, only one victory counted for Blomdahl in the final. But this was very much at risk in the semifinals. The increasingly stronger Belgian Frédéric Caudron was already leading 2-1 sets. Blomdahl was able to kick off the fourth set with 15 points. Caudron started the decision set with eleven points. The Swede fought his way up to 12: 8 after three shots. After some very defensive shots, the Belgian led 14: 8 in the eighth shot. Blomdahl countered with six heavily played collisions and won with 15:14. In the final it became extremely tight for Blomdahl again. Ceulemans led 2-1 sets and only needed two points in the fourth set. With a strong nerve, Blomdahl won the set with 15:13 in nine shots. In the fifth set there was a clear 15: 4 success in five shots. Blomdahl was the first billiards player to win all games with at least two averages in a tournament. The salary was a new world record of 2.308 in the general average (GD).

The exact price money could not be determined from the documents. However, as in all BWA World Cup tournaments, it was at least 100,000 DM.

The World Cup tournament was played as an open tournament again. From a pre-qualification with a maximum of 124 participants, ten participants qualify for the 1/16 finals. The main tournament is played with 28 participants. The first four of the world rankings are set for the round of 16. In future, 20 participants are set. The participants are recruited from the 14 best players in the world rankings (as of September 1st of the current year) as well as two national and international wildcards. The whole tournament, with the exception of the small final, is played in the knockout system with three sets of 15 points each. (Press release by BWA.Ghent, January 8, 1994.)

From this year onwards there was no more qualifying tournament.
