The three- cushion world cup 1997/5 was the fourth UMB world cup tournament in the twelfth year of the three-cushion world cup. The tournament took place from June 16 to 22, 1997 in this discipline of carom billiards in Herne , North Rhine-Westphalia . It was the third German city after Berlin and Halle (Saale) to host a three-cushion World Cup tournament.

history

With his second World Cup victory in 1997 after Seoul, Christian Rudolph secured the overall World Cup victory of the year. He proved his nerves in the final when he was able to turn a 2-0 set deficit against Eddy Leppens into a 3-2 win. The tournament in Herne was at a high level. Stefan Galla , who celebrated his best World Cup year, played the best tournament average with 1.663 . Daniel Sánchez was even better with 1.812 and Yilmaz Özcan with 1.786. Since the two have only played two games, the value does not count as an official best. Third place went to the Luxembourg multiple world champion in various disciplines Fonsy Grethen and the Belgian Peter de Backer.

The exact price money could not be determined from the documents.

Tournament mode

In the qualifying round in groups, two sets of 15 points each are played in round robin mode. The group winners qualify for the 1/16 finals. There are also 16 seeded players. From the main competition (1/16 final), all games are played on three sets of 15 points each. Third place has not been played since the 1996/97 season. This means that there is no game for third place and there are two third-placed players.

In the event of a tie, the following order will be applied:

  1. MP = match points
  2. SV = rate ratio
  3. GD = general average
  4. HS = maximum series
