The Three-Cushion World Cup 2009/1 was the first of five tournaments of the 2009 season in the division carom and found from 19 to 25 January 2009 at "Congrescentrum 'Meulengat t" in Sluiskil in the Dutch province of Zeeland instead. It was the 24th World Cup in the Netherlands.
history
At 150, a new record for World Cup tournaments was set in Sluiskil. As in the previous year, the superior overall World Cup winner of the previous year Dick Jaspers failed very early. And again it was the Belgian Jozef Philipoom who threw the local hero out of the tournament. Philipoom played a very good tournament and reached the final by beating record World Cup winner Torbjörn Blomdahl in the semifinals. Here the opponent was his compatriot Frédéric Caudron . This left Philipoom with his smooth 3-0 set win but no chance of the title.

International carom tournaments
The three-cushion World Cup was organized by the founding association, the "
Billiards Worldcup Association " (BWA) until 1998 . Disputes between the BWA and the world association
Union Mondiale de Billard (UMB) led to parallel tournaments between 1994 and 1997. The UMB / BWA organized the tournament together until the beginning of 1999. Since the dissolution of the BWA in 1999, the UMB has been the sole organizer.
From 1988-1991 the UMB did not host any world championships. During this time, the annual overall winner of the World Cup was crowned world champion.
