Alexander Toft Søderlund (born August 3, 1987 in Haugesund ) is a Norwegian football player . He has been under contract with Rosenborg Trondheim since January 2018 .
Club career
Søderlund began his career in the youth of his home club FK Haugesund . Praised as a great talent early on, he acted inconspicuously for a long time and was often injured due to his strong growth. As a result, he did not make the leap into the professional team. In 2006 he then moved to the smaller Vard Haugesund , for which he then made his debut in the professional team. At Vard, he immediately impressed with strong performances, after which he came back into the focus of some media. Even before his professional debut, at the age of 19, he was promoted to the U-21 national team of his country.
After his first professional season he attracted the interest of the Italian clubs US Lecce and Pisa Calcio . Both clubs were keen to sign the player, but negotiations failed due to Vard's veto.
After his contract expired in December 2007, the Norwegian training club Sogndal IL showed great interest in signing the player and also presented him with a contract offer after a trial session. After the previously failed transfer to Italy, Søderlund wanted to make the leap abroad and instead signed with the Italian player agent Corvino Polomba.
On January 3, 2008, he moved to the Italian third division club SS Virtus Lanciano . The change caused a sensation in the Norwegian press, as Sogndal is known as a talent development association and, according to the unanimous opinion of the journalists, would have been the much better decision for developing the talent.
Lanciano was only intended to be a pull-through station for Søderlund. He stayed only half a year to sign a four-year contract with the then Serie B team FBC Treviso for the 2008/09 season .
The first big career break followed in Treviso. In the pre-season he was often used and scored a few goals, but was then only used in the " Primavera " of his club. In August 2008, a loan to the Belgian second division UR Namur followed . At the bottom of the table, Namur, he then played 3 games without scoring before he was brought back to Italy after 3 months. It was followed by two more months without professional use, before he was loaned again, this time to Bulgaria, to the first division club Botev Plovdiv . The Plovdiv station was even more disappointing. Søderlund was not used in three months and was sent back.
When Treviso relegated to the end of the season from Serie B and narrowly escaped bankruptcy, they tried desperately to find a buyer for Søderlund. When the offers failed to materialize, he was again drawn on loan to the reigning Icelandic champion FH Hafnarfjörður .
At the traditional Icelandic club he got a regular place and was able to celebrate winning the Icelandic double at the end of the season.
After the loan contract with Hafnarfjörður expired, Treviso decided against an extension with the talent. He then completed a trial training session with the Italian third division club Calcio Lecco in January 2010 , where he was able to convince. He then signed a four-month contract with Lecco.
National team
Contrary to other Norwegian talents, Søderlund did not appear in a youth team in his country until 2006. After moving to Vard Haugesund, he was surprisingly appointed to the squad of the Norwegian U-21 national team before his professional debut . On October 6, 2006, he made his debut in a 3-1 win over Denmark. He was substituted on for Tore Andreas Gundersen in the 72nd minute .
After his debut, he was no longer considered for a selection team.
