Career

society

Bjørn Johnsen was born in New York City in November 1991 to an American mother and a Norwegian father . He grew up in North Carolina and attended Needham B. Broughton High School .

After spending his childhood and youth in the United States, he moved to Lyn Oslo's youth teams in early 2008 before joining Vålerenga for the 2010 season within the Norwegian capital . From the Oslo team he was first loaned to third division club Kjelsås IL in 2011, before Johnsen - again on loan - moved to league rivals FK Tønsberg in June. In January 2012 he moved to Spain to Antequera CF in the Tercera División . After 13 appearances and five goals, he moved six months later to the third division Atlético Baleares from Palma on Mallorca . For the club, he completed ten league games without scoring a goal. At the end of the 2012/13 season, the striker moved to Portugal for Louletano DC . In July 2014 he went to the second division Atlético CP from the Lisbon district of Alcântara and scored 14 goals in 27 games in the second division 2014/15 season . In February 2015 he moved to Litex Lovech in Bulgaria. In July 2016, Johnsen signed with Heart of Midlothian . After a season he was sold to the Dutch first division club ADO Den Haag . In 34 games he scored 19 goals and thus contributed to seventh place in the table; he retired with the team in the league playoffs to qualify for the UEFA Europa League .

In July 2018 Johnsen moved to AZ Alkmaar and signed a four-year contract. He was never able to assert himself - also due to injury - and only made 22 appearances and six goals in the league in which AZ Alkmaar took fourth place and thus qualified for the second qualifying round for the UEFA Europa League . In the KNVB-Beker, Johnsen played in three games (one goal). After an appearance in the first leg in the play-offs of the UEFA Europa League against Royal Antwerp , he moved back to Norway on August 24, 2019 on loan for six months to Rosenborg BK . In eleven appearances in the top Norwegian league, he scored five goals, but was only third in the table with Rosenborg BK.

After the loan ended, Bjørn Maars Johnsen did not return to AZ Alkmaar but instead joined Ulsan Hyundai in South Korea .

National team

Bjørn Maars Johnsen played for the Norwegian national team for the first time on June 19, 2017 when he came on for Alexander Søderlund in the 71st minute of the 1-1 draw in the World Cup qualifier in Oslo against the Czech Republic . Since this game was a competitive game, he is no longer eligible to play for the United States .
