SK Vard Haugesund is a Norwegian football club from Haugesund , Rogaland province . It was founded in 1916 and currently (2020 season) plays in the PostNord-Liga , the third highest division in Norwegian football.
After Vard was represented for the first time in 1968 in the then two-season second division, but could not hold the class, the club returned there in 1971. In 1975 it was even possible to move up to the upper house. In addition, the team reached the final of the Norwegian Football Cup in the same year - for the second time since 1962 . The 1976 season ended immediately with relegation to the 2nd division. Here Vard initially played continuously until 1983 and - after a year in the 3rd division - again from 1985 to 1989.
When the city rivals SK Haugar and SK Djerv decided in late 1993 to outsource their first teams to a new club called FK Haugesund , SK Vard was originally supposed to also participate in the project, but this was rejected at its general meeting. This decision was only revised in 2005 and now functions as a kind of farm team .
The club plays its home games in the Haugesund Stadium , which the club shares with local rivals FK Haugesund , which has now established itself in the elite series .
