Union Royale Namur is a Belgian football club . The club from the city of Namur in Wallonia - about 65 km south-east of the capital Brussels - played for several years in the second division of Belgium.

history

The association emerged from several associations. The founding of the oldest forerunners of the club dates back to 1905, when Union Sportive Namuroise and Namur FC were formed. In 1920, from the merger of Red Star Namur , US Jamboise and Excelsior SC , another club was created under the name Namur Sports , which registered under number 156 with the Belgian association. Two years later, the Wallonia Association Namur was founded, initially the most successful club in town, as it was able to move up to the second class in 1933. After only one season, the club rose directly from bottom of the table with only three wins this season and over a hundred goals conceded. In 1941 the club merged with Namur Sports to form Union Royale Namur , but a short time later a new club was created under the name Wallonia Association Namur .

1960 Union Royale Namur rose to the second division. A fifth place in the table was followed by twelfth place, before the team relegated again after three years. However, the club succeeded in the immediate resurgence until he was relegated to the third division again in 1967.

In 1989, UR Namur merged with Royale Entente Sportive Jamboise and renamed itself to RFC Namur . Two years later, Wallonia Association Namur and EJ Erpent merged to form Wallonia Erpent Jambes , before the club returned to its old name in 1995. A year later, RFC Namur also gave itself the old name with UR Namur . In 1998 the Wallonia Association Namur and US Namur merged to form Racing Wallonia Saint-Servais , before the club joined the UR Namur in 2002 .

In 2007, UR Namur finished second behind ROC Charleroi-Marchienne in Season B of the third division. In the subsequent promotion round, the team reached the final against KFC Verbroedering Geel . Although the opponent won both games, UR Namur protested. As the matter was not resolved at the beginning of the following season, both rose to the second division, which was then played with 19 instead of 18 teams. There the team occupied the relegation place, but was able to stay in the league. In the following year only two victories of the season get, so that the team ended the season in the last place in the table and returned to the third division. Since the 2011/12 season they have only played fourth-rate.

The club colors are black and yellow, which is why the soccer club is often referred to as Les merles (= the blackbirds) in the media . The home games are played in the Stade communal de Namur with a capacity of 3,500 spectators. In the youth sector, the club provides seven football teams in the age groups from 11 to 17 years.
