The three- cushion world cup 2016/5 was the fifth UMB / ACBC world cup tournament in the 30th year of the three- cushion world cup. It took place from August 29th to September 4th at the Guri Gymnasium in Guri . It was the fifth three-cushion world cup tournament, a form of carom billiards , in Guri.

history

As expected, the number of participants in the host country is very high. Nevertheless, the elite players from South Korea, Kim Haeng-jik , four-time junior world champion, and Hwang Hyung-bum, second in the 2015 World Cup in Porto, could not reach the final round of the "last 32". Surprisingly, this was achieved by the only 18-year-old newcomer Cho Myung-woo , who prevailed against the entire world elite, was only stopped in the semifinals by the eventual winner Jérémy Bury and at the end of the tournament was able to win the bronze medal alongside the Dutch old master Dick Jaspers . For Bury it was the first victory of a World Cup, just four weeks after his first individual victory of his career at the Verhoeven Open in New York. The Trans final is not only the first silver medal in his career, but also only the second in his country after Tran Chi Thanh at the 2007 World Cup in Suwon.

Tournament mode

A lot has changed in the tournament mode since 2013. The rate system was abolished because the match time could not be calculated. Matches could last between three and five sets. Good timing was therefore not possible. The game distances were set at 30 points in the pre-qualifying rounds and 40 points in the main qualification and in the knockout games. A tie is possible in the qualifying rounds. In the knockout round, overtime is played in the event of a tie. Each of the two players starts with the initial push. Whoever scores more points wins the match. If there is also a tie in extra time, the kick starts again until a winner is determined. The shot clock was shortened to 40 seconds. Each player can take two extra times per match . This increases the peak time by 40 seconds. There are only two wildcards for the organizer and one each for three of the four associations CPB , ACBC , CEB and ACC in which the World Cup does not take place.

Four qualifying rounds are played. From the last qualifying round, the 12 group winners and the three best runners-up qualify for the final round. The main tournament is played with 32 participants.

In the event of a tie, the following order will be applied:

  1. MP = match points
  2. GD = general average
  3. HS = maximum series

Seeded players and wild cards

The first 12 players in the world rankings and the wildcard players automatically took part as players in the tournament in the knockout round. The first four of the world rankings are placed in positions 1, 16, 8 and 9.

For the sake of clarity, qualification rounds 1, 2 and 3 are not shown. These can be looked up under the links at the UMB . In the last (4th) qualifying round, up to 40 points are played in groups A – L with 3 players each. The top three and the three best runners-up in the group go to the final round of the best 32.
