The three- cushion world cup 1998/8 was the seventh UMB / BWA world cup tournament in the 13th year of the three-cushion world cup. The tournament took place from October 22nd to 25th, 1998 in this discipline of carom billiards Oosterhout . It was the seventh three-cushion World Cup tournament in Oosterhout.

history

The 24-year-old Spaniard Daniel Sánchez celebrated his third World Cup victory in Oosterhout. It was the most important World Cup victory as the first two were scored at UMB tournaments and the BWA players were absent. In the final, he prevailed against Dick Jaspers with 3-1 sets . For Jaspers important points in the fight for the overall World Cup victory, as Torbjörn Blomdahl lost important points by being eliminated in the second round. For the third time in a row, Semih Saygıner was able to secure third place. The Belgian Eddy Leppens started the tournament with a bang. He won the first set against Ad Broeders from the Netherlands in one shot. For this he was rewarded with a bonus of 5000 DM.

Tournament mode

The World Cup tournament was played as an open tournament. From a pre-qualification with a maximum of 124 participants, 12 participants qualify for the 1/16 finals. The main tournament is played with 32 participants. There are 14 participants. The seeded participants are recruited from the best 14 players in the current world rankings. The whole tournament is played in the knockout system with three winning sets of 15 points each.

In the event of a tie, the following order will be applied:

  1. MP = match points
  2. SV = rate ratio
  3. GD = general average
  4. HS = maximum series
