It was designed by Alexis van Mechelen . The building is on the Meir , one of the most important shopping streets in Antwerp . A second entrance leads from the Hopland into the city festival hall. For a long time, the city festival hall hosted art exhibitions, the antique market, the book market, the motor show and many different events. In 2000 a fire destroyed almost the entire building.

The city ballroom was renovated and converted into a luxury shopping center, which opened on October 25, 2007. The aim of the renovation was to position Antwerp even more strongly as a shopping metropolis. Special features are the champagne bar and the world's first Tommy Hilfiger tailor-made shop.

Events

In 1953 the ballroom was chosen for the first time as the venue for the three-cushion world championship . It was completely sold out on all match days with 3,000 spectators. In 1974 the World Cup was hosted for the second time. Due to the change in use after the reopening in 2007, the 2013 World Cup took place in the “Lotto Arena”.
