Seagreen is an in-planning area of offshore wind farms in the Exclusive Economic Zone of the United Kingdom in the western North Sea .

The entire project area is 25 km east of the Scottish coastal region of Fife and extends over 2,852 km 2 .

Sub-areas

Seven individual wind farm fields are planned, divided into three phases, which together contain 412 wind turbines for a total asset of up to 4.1  GW . This would lead to a significant increase in the renewable energy share in Scotland.

Phase 1

The phase 1 sub-area was awarded £ 41.61 per megawatt hour for 454 megawatts in September 2019 . Via a contract for difference , the feed-in tariff is guaranteed by the state to the operator for 15 years ( present value from 2012). A successful bidder is Seagreen Wind Energy Limited , an operating company of SSE Renewables . Commissioning is planned for 2024/25. The aim is to build up to 48 MHI Vestas V164-9.5 MW wind turbines .

criticism

The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) has voiced criticism that the wind turbines would kill numerous animals. In a court ruling, the conservation value of the area for sea birds was determined. The project planning company would now like to advise further steps.
