description

Lycium nodosum is an upright shrub that reaches heights of 0.5 to 2 m. Its leaves are membranous, hairless, 6 to 30 mm long and 2 to 13 mm wide.

The flowers are hermaphrodite and fourfold. The calyx is cup-shaped and hairless. The calyx tube is 0.9 to 1.5 mm long and covered with 0.3 to 0.6 mm long calyx lobes. The crown is narrowly funnel-shaped and colored white, occasionally the veins are purple. The corolla tube is 4.5 to 6 mm long, the corolla lobes 2 to 2.5 mm. The stamens are hairy at the base.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 24.

Occurrence

The species is common in South America and occurs there in Paraguay and Argentina in the provinces of Córdoba , Chaco , Entre Ríos , Formosa , Jujuy and Tucumán .

Systematics

Molecular biological studies place the species together with Lycium californicum and Lycium vimineum in a clearly supported clade , Lycium californicum forms a sister clade to the other two species.
