The three-cushion world championship for national teams in 1997 was the 11th edition of this tournament, which has been held annually since 1981 in the three- cushion version of billiards . It took place from February 20 to 23, 1997 in Viersen .
Game mode
For the first time, 18 teams took part in the tournament. Each team consisted of two players. The game was played in 5 groups of 3 from A to E. In the groups only player 1 played against player 1 and player 2 against player 2. The five group winners and three seeded teams (last year's finalists and hosts Germany) were drawn into two groups F and G. . The group winners and runners-up played the semi-finals cross-wise. The winners were in the final and the losers played for 3rd place.
Up to the final, 2 winning sets were played. The final went over 3 sets of wins. Germany secured the title for the third time. In the semifinals, Austria and Denmark were tied in terms of game and set points. Austria only led after points scored with 53:51 and moved into the final.
