The three-cushion world championship for national teams in 2003 was the 17th edition of this tournament, which has been held annually since 1981 in the three- cushion version of billiards . It took place from February 13 to 16, 2003 in Viersen .

Tournament commentary

In the game for third place, the final from last year was reissued between defending champions Germany (Team A) with the players Christian Rudolph / Martin Horn and the first team from the Netherlands. This time, however, Dick Jaspers and Raimond Burgman were successful and came with a 0-2 victory on the podium. The winners were Tayfun Taşdemir (third last year) and Semih Saygıner from Turkey, ahead of the Greek youngster team with the junior world champions Filipos Kasidokostas (2004) and Nikos Polychronopoulos (1999).

The second team from Germany also reached the finals and had to play against the Turks in the quarter-finals. Johann Schirmbrand , team world champion from 1997, got downright under the wheels in his game against Saygıner, a 3-0 defeat was the result. Stefan Galla's 3-1 win didn't help. Both were eliminated. After a strong preliminary round, the Austrians were no longer able to contest the young Greeks for victory. Andreas Efler was expelled from Kasidokostas at 8:15, 8:15 and 13:15 in just 30 shots in three sentences. Gerhard Kostistansky was able to wrest a hard-fought five-set victory from his opponent Polychronopoulos, but ultimately could not prevent the overall defeat.

Game mode

24 teams took part in the tournament. Each team consisted of two players. The game was played in eight groups of three from A to H. The eight group winners made it to the quarter-finals. The 3rd place was played out. In the group games, two winning sets (best of 3) and three winning sets (best of 5) from the quarter-finals onwards.

In the event of a tie, the following shall apply:
