The three-cushion European championship 2005 was the 62nd tournament in this discipline of carom billiards and took place from 12 to 15 May 2005 in Porto . It was the third three-cushion European Championship in Porto.

history

The Swede Torbjörn Blomdahl secured his eighth three-cushion European title unbeaten in Portugal. After a moderate start for him, he improved in the knockout round and became the new title holder with world-class performances in the semifinals and finals. But the Dutchman Dick Jaspers was responsible for all of the tournament's best performances . Only in the semifinals against Frédéric Caudron did he weaken a little and thus missed the finals. The Danes were once again strong and were the only nation to get two players into the quarter-finals. For the German and Austrian players, the tournament did not go as planned. Only ex-world champion Christian Rudolph made it into the knockout round. But there was also the end of the line for him after a moderate performance against the two-time European junior champion Brian Knudsen from Denmark. Last year's silver medalist Martin Horn failed in the group stage.

mode

The tournament was played with 32 participants. In the group games, two sets of 15 points were used to win. From the round of 16 onwards there were three sets of wins per game. Third place was no longer played out.
