The three-cushion European championship 2001 was the 58th tournament in this discipline of carom billiards and took place from 4th to 6th May 2001 in Odense in the Danish region of southern Denmark. It was the fifth three-cushion European Championship in Denmark since 1964.

history

The European Championship was a tournament of records. The new Swedish European champion Torbjörn Blomdahl set a new European record in the BED (best individual average) with 2.812 . The Belgian Frédéric Caudron achieved the best GD (general average ) of the tournament with 2.314 . That was also a new European record. With 1.431 the European record on the tournament average was also improved. For the Danish association, Tonny Carlsen and Dion Nelin won medals for the first time in a tournament. The Luxembourg pentathlon world champion Fonsy Grethen was responsible for the biggest surprise in the first round . He defeated the record European champion Raymond Ceulemans with 3-2 sets. Torbjörn Blomdahl and Frédéric Caudron played a sensational game in the quarterfinals. Despite winning a set in one recording and a game average of 3,250, Caudron had to admit defeat to the Swede with 1: 3 sets. The best German was once again Martin Horn in fifth place . In the second round he eliminated the defending champion Daniel Sánchez and had to admit defeat to the new European runner-up Tonny Carlsen in the quarter-finals with 2: 3 sets. For Christian Rudolph , the last sixteen was the end of the line. The two Austrian participants Andreas Horvath and Andreas Efler were eliminated in the first round.
