The three-cushion European championship in 1979 was the 37th tournament in this discipline of carom billiards and took place from March 6 to 11, 1979 in Düren . It was the fifth three-cushion European Championship in Germany.

history

Once again the field only played for second place. Raymond Ceulemans dominated the tournament from the start. None of his opponents could score more than 50 points against him. Former master Johann Scherz came in second again. Third place, which qualified for the world championship in Lima , was hard fought. Up to the penultimate lap three players were able to reach it. Here the Portuguese Egidio Vierat, who emigrated to France, showed the best nerves and won the last three games. Behind the Dutchman Rini van Bracht was Dieter Müller fifth. He lost his last four games after a good start. He had a lot of bad luck in the games against Scherz (58:60) and Vierat (59:60). The second German participant Günter Siebert , who only found out about his participation one day before the start of the tournament, had to be content with tenth place. The German master Gert Tiedtke canceled his participation at very short notice due to illness.

mode

The game was played in the system “everyone against everyone” to 60 points with additional push / equal intake .
