The three-cushion European championship in 1977 was the 35th tournament in this discipline of carom billiards and took place from 25 to 30 January 1977 in Lausanne . After 25 years it was again a three-cushion European Championship in Switzerland.

history

This European championship was already dominated by the world championship in Tokyo . The first three places in this EM were qualified for Tokyo. As usual, Raymond Ceulemans won almost as a matter of course in recent years . In the final accounts, the medal ranks were awarded to exactly the same actors from the previous year. But it could have turned out differently. Before the last round, Ceulemans and Johann Scherz were only one losing game, Ceulemans had lost to Ludo Dielis and Scherz to Thøgersen, tied with 18 points at the top of the table. So the winner of the last game was European champion. Scherz started very well and was already ten points ahead. After that Ceulemans showed his class again and played the best tournament game and won with 60:37 in 33 shots. The German three-cushion champion Günter Siebert showed a solid performance and finished seventh. All players had problems with the new Super Aramit balls that were used for the first time at a European Championship. As a result, the averages were not as good as at the last EM.

mode

The game was played in the system “everyone against everyone” to 60 points with additional push / equal intake .
