The 1980 European three-cushion championship was the 38th tournament in this discipline of carom billiards and took place from March 18 to 23, 1980 in Helsingborg . It was the first carom EM in Sweden and was held for the 40th anniversary of the Swedish Billiards Association.

history

Raymond Ceulemans surprisingly made a draw against Swedish local hero Mats Noren . Noren played his best tournament game against Ceulemans. Otherwise the same picture from the last few years. No other player got 50 points against him. Johann Scherz won his tenth silver medal. The binding specialist Christ van der Smissen from the Netherlands achieved the first podium in his second three-cushion European Championship with third place. In his very first game he set a new Dutch record in the best individual average (BED) with 1.875. For the second Belgian Ludo Dielis , the tournament was very unfortunate. With two extremely narrow defeats against Scherz (58:60) and Dieter Müller (59:60), despite his very good general average (GD), it was only enough for a thankless fourth place. Dieter Müller from Berlin confirmed his position last year with fifth place.

mode

The game was played in the system “everyone against everyone” to 60 points with additional push / equal intake .
