The three-cushion European championship in 1991 was the 49th tournament in this discipline of carom billiards and took place from 14 to 17 March 1991 in Dordrecht in the Dutch province of South Holland . It was the eleventh three-cushion European Championship in the Netherlands.
history
For the first time a European championship was held with 32 participants. The double knockout system was also new. In spite of everything, the best players of recent years prevailed again. The final was the same pairing as last year. Again the outstanding player of the last few years prevailed. In an exciting final, Torbjörn Blomdahl quickly took the lead with 2-0 sets. But Dick Jaspers showed strong nerves and equalized to 2: 2. The defending champion secured the fifth set with 15:10 in 8 shots and became European champion for the fifth time. For the first time after 1988, the 21-time European champion Raymond Ceulemans played again . He immediately caused a sensation. In the general average (GD) he set a new European record with 1.808 . Of the three German participants, third in the German championship and newcomer to the European championships, Christian Rudolph, made the best impression and came in 13th. Austrian Christoph Pilss came in 15th. Andreas Efler , who was born in Vienna, took 9th place for Switzerland.
mode
The entire tournament was played in a double knockout system. On the winning side, 3 winning sets of 15 points each and on the losing side of 2 winning sets of 15 points were played.
