Herman Popeijus (* 1924 in Barendrecht , Netherlands ; † May 20, 1997 in Breda ) was a Dutch carambola player in the three- cushion discipline .

Career

In the 40s and 50s Popeijus played in the billiards club "Het Schaapje" in Smitshoek, a district of Barendrecht .

In the 1950s, Popeijus became Dutch champion five times. It was the time after Jan Sweering and Jan Broekhuizen and before that of Henny de Ruijter , Cees van Oosterhout , Jan Doggen and Rini van Bracht . Popeijus managed to crown himself the best Dutch three-pander in 1963 and the mid-1970s (1976 and 1977), with general averages (GD) that remained below one (1,000). The billiard player from Etten-Leur has won the national title in three cushion eight times and is in third place in the all-time list.

His mentality made Popeijus a billiard player who was the first to manage a series of high series (HS) of 15 billiards . For a long time, the unorthodox popeijus was someone to consider when it came to billiards. His technique and mentality allowed him to keep him as a top national player into the eighties. Many of his comrades-in-arms said of him: “He had no nerve!”, He played so calmly.

During his almost 40-year career, Popeijus collected a total of 16 national medals and at the European Championships in 1955 and 1963 he captured a second and a third place.
