Alfredo Ferraz (born November 8, 1901 , † September 16, 1960 ) was a Portuguese carambola player and world champion.
Career
Ferraz was born on the island of Madeira and came to Lisbon to study mechanical engineering at the Instituto Superior Técnico . His passion for billiards grew strongly here, and he acquired a stake in the billiards room of the Sociedade de Billard do Rossio , which was located above Café Nicola on Rossio Square. Ferraz was then jointly responsible for tournaments that became more and more popular there and steadily raised the level of Portuguese billiards. Its increasing international success then gave billiards further popularity in Portugal.
Ferraz was a carom player who was at home in all disciplines. However, he achieved his greatest successes in the series game of the free game and cadre . He played his first World Cup in the free game in Barcelona in 1930 . He reached third place behind the Egyptian Edmond Soussa and Théo Moons from Belgium. A year later he beat Soussa at the Concours International de Fantasie Classique , a kind of pre-world championship before the world championships in art kick, which were held from 1937 by the Confédération International de Billard Artistique (CIBA) . In the cover Ferraz was able to win a silver medal behind the Austrian Ernst Reicher at the 1934 World Cup . The gold medal in the free game followed in 1936 in Lausanne, Switzerland.
In Lisbon and Setúbal streets are named after Alfredo Ferraz.
