The free game world championship in 1934 was the seventh UIFAB world championship in the free game. The tournament took place from May 24th to 28th in Vienna , Austria.
history
The young German Walter Joachim could not take part in this world championship as defending champion. The reason was a decree from the Reichssportführer in Germany: for our representatives who are in prospect for the World Cup in the Free Game in Vienna, Messrs. Joachim (Berlin), who is the defending champion, and Lütgehetmann (Mainz) cannot participate because according to the Reichssportführer's decree In view of the current political situation, any sporting relationship with Austria must be refrained from for the time being. (German Billard Newspaper)
The World Championship in Vienna was played with a tie for the first time. Before that, there was no follow-up at the end of the game. After seven games, two players had won six games each. According to the rules of the time, when the title was awarded, if there was a tie, the average was not what counted, but the title was decided by a tie-off game. That was very unfortunate for the Austrian Ernst Reicher , playing in his father's venue, as he had achieved all the best performances of the tournament by then. In doing so, he had equalized two world records. In the playoff game, Frenchman Jean Albert showed his best performance in the tournament and ended the game in one shot. Reicher had only scored 16 points and was only second. Before the game, Albert only played the fourth best general average (GD) of all participants, but in the end he became a deserved world champion. For the first time, the tournament average at a world championship was over 40 average per recording. Since extended series were evaluated for the first time in the official end tables of UIFAB, the highest series (HS) record increased to 877 . Prepared by Ernst Reicher.
