The free game world championship in 1936 was the ninth UIFAB world championship in the free game. The tournament took place from May 8th to May 12th in Mulhouse , France.

history

At the general assembly of the world association Union Internationale des Fédérations des Amateurs de Billard (UIFAB) on August 21 and 22, 1935 in Brussels with representatives from America, Belgium, France, Germany, Holland, Switzerland and Spain, after a long debate at the the Aachener Carl Foerster represented the German Amateur Billiard Association , decided to take it back into the UIFAB. Thus all German billiards athletes were again allowed to participate in international championships. (German Billard Newspaper)

The world championship in Mulhouse started again with 10 participants. Some excellent performances were already achieved in the preliminary round. After the elimination of the last group, the main tournament began. Here, too, as in the preliminary round, the Spaniard Juan Butrón turned out to be the best free game player. With just one defeat he was the world champion he deserved. He improved the series record of 1386, set last year by Jean Albert from France, to the new record of 1497 . As in the previous year, Joaquin Domingo took second place. Cornelius van Vliet, who took part for the first time, was responsible for the first Dutch medal. The German world champion from 1933 Walter Joachim finished fourth.

Tournament mode

It was played in two groups of five players in a preliminary round in round robin mode. The last of each group were eliminated. The remaining eight players played the world championship against each other in round robin mode. The games against the eliminated players were not counted in the final round. In the event of a tie, the following order will be applied:

  1. MP = match points
  2. GD = general average
  3. HS = maximum series
