The free game world championship in 1928 was the first UIFAB world championship in the free game. The tournament took place from April 12th to 15th in Basel , Switzerland.
history
After only cadre 45/2 and 45/1 world championships were held until 1926, the UIFAB decided at its general assembly in Cologne in 1927 to also allow other disciplines of billiards to participate in world championships. In Basel it was about the free game. The biggest all-rounder at the time, the Egyptian Edmond Soussa, was the big favorite. The Swiss Rudolphe Agassiz had won the national championship shortly before the world championship with the new Swiss record of 31.25 in the general average and also had good chances for the title. Due to a defeat against French Emile Sicard 458: 500 in a moderate 26 shots, his hopes were greatly reduced early in the tournament. In his match against Soussa he had no chance with his 215: 500 defeat in 14 shots. At the end of the tournament, the Egyptian won the world championship with all tournament records.
