The free game world championship in 1949 was the 13th UIFAB world championship in the free game. The tournament took place from May 26th to 29th in Madrid , Spain.
history
At the first World Cup after the Second World War, the free game was played for the first time with the larger corner swipe, which made the game a little more difficult. Since the general skill level had also improved, the effects were not so great. The winner was the Belgian Clément van Hassel. His general average (GD) of 62.60 is therefore also rated as a new world record. The same was true for the other top performances. As in his two previous appearances, the Spaniard Joaquin Domingo came in second . The Dutch cadre specialist Piet van de Pol secured third place. Defending champion Alfredo Ferraz , weakened by an illness, only finished last in the tournament. The world championship was marked by enormous audience interest. When there was a large crowd, there were not enough seats in the tournament hall.
