Uwe Bengs (born December 26, 1943 ) is a former German soccer goalkeeper. He played for SC Neubrandenburg in 1964/65 in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football .

Athletic career

The company sports community (BSG) Lokomotive in Pasewalk was the first stop in Uwe Bengs' eventful football career in 1956. Later he was first goalkeeper at Empor Neustrelitz , where he last played in the fourth class district league Neubrandenburg . For the 1962/63 season Bengs moved to BSG Turbine Neubrandenburg in the second-rate GDR league . There he became the second goalkeeper behind Gert Jüsgen and was only used in a point game. In the 1963/64 season, the Neubrandenburgers managed to rise to the GDR league, in which Bengs was involved with nine missions. Also for the league season 1964/65, in which the BSG was converted into the sports club Neubrandenburg, Bengs was again only a replacement for Jüsgen and played only one league game. The SC Neubrandenburg rose after a year from the league again, and Bengs returned to BSG Empor Neustrelitz back, which had just been relegated from the GDR league. Since the hoped-for recovery was missed, Bengs left Neustrelitz again and joined the GDR league club TSG Wismar . There he was undisputed goalkeeper No. 1 in 1966/67, because he played all 30 point games. After 17 missions in the 1967/68 season, he was drafted for military service in the National People's Army . There he was able to continue playing football from the 1968/69 season in the GDR league team of the Army Sports Association (ASG) Vorwärts Neubrandenburg . He completed all 30 point games this season and remained the regular goalkeeper of the army team in 1969/70 with 27 appearances, which, however, was relegated from the GDR league at the end of the season. After his discharge from the army, Bengs returned to Neubrandenburg, where his former team was now in the GDR league as BSG Post. After 15 league appearances in 1970/71, he played all 22 point games in the following season. From 1972/73 Bengs had competition from Karl-Heinz Wienhold, who was ten years his junior, and was only twelve times in goal. After Bengs had again played 16 point games in 1973/74, he was then finally replaced by Wienhold and ended his career as a football player in the performance area. From 1983 on he was a trainer for various lower-class Neubrandenburg teams.
