Albert Sextus Talalla

Albert Sextus Talalla (* 25. January 1933 ) is a Malaysian diplomat in retirement .

Personal

He is the son of Lily Olga Talalla and Hewage Benjamin. In 1957 he completed a Bachelor of Arts degree from Dublin University . On May 6, 1971, he married Renee Marie Lopes.

Career

In Malaysia he was Managing Director of Guthrie & Company from 1958 to 1960 . In 1960 he joined the foreign service and was employed as an assistant secretary in the Foreign Ministry until 1962. In 1962 he became Second Class Legation Secretary in Manila . In 1965, after three years, he became Deputy First Secretary in Kuala Lumpur . At the Malaysian High Commission in London, he was first class delegation secretary in 1966, later counselor. In 1972 he became State Secretary in the Foreign Ministry in Kuala Lumpur.

From 1975 to 1978 he was the Malaysian High Commissioner in Ottawa . From 1978 to 1980 he was Deputy Secretary General at the Foreign Ministry in Kuala Lumpur . In Beijing he was ambassador from 1980 to 1983, in Bonn from 1983 to 1986. On May 19, 1986 he was appointed ambassador to Washington, DC , where he was accredited from June 23, 1989 to August 6, 1991. He then became the founding director of the Institute For Diplomacy And External Relations , founded on July 1, 1991 , an advanced training facility of the Malaysian Foreign Ministry.
