Mandate reference

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The mandate reference is - under the procedure for non-cash payments SEPA - one from the payee individually, allocated marks for the payer issued debit consent (mandate).

The mandate reference in combination with the creditor identification number clearly identifies the mandate on which the direct debit is based. The creditor of payments specifies it and must choose it so that it is unique in combination with his creditor identification number. The submitter must inform the payer of both details before the first SEPA direct debit. Both identifications must be entered in each individual direct debit submitted for collection.

The mandate reference can contain up to 35 characters. It generally shows what the payment is for and contains, for example, a customer or membership number or some other identifier specified by the creditor, while the creditor identification number represents who is being paid to.
