The Misurina lake ( Italian Lago di Misurina ) is a much-visited lake in the Dolomites in the province of Belluno in Italy . The 1756 m high lake can be reached from the southwest of Cortina d'Ampezzo , from the Höhlensteintal in the north or from Auronzo di Cadore , to whose municipal area the lake belongs, in the east. It is surrounded by the rock massifs of the Three Peaks , Monte Piana , the Cadini Group , Monte Cristallo and, further south, by Marmarole and Sorapiss . The west bank is lined with the hotels of the Misurina settlement . The maximum depth of the lake is 5 m.
In 1956, the lake was the venue for the speed skating competitions of the Winter Olympics .
