The Olimpia delle Tofane (often referred to as "Tofana" for short ) is a ski race track in Cortina d'Ampezzo . The men's downhill run at the 1956 Winter Olympics was held on it. It is currently the venue for women's world cup races .

history

At the 1956 Winter Olympics, Toni Sailer won the gold medal in the downhill race at the Olimpia delle Tofane, ahead of Raymond Fellay and Andreas Molterer . From 1969 onwards, World Cup races for women and men took place on this slope at irregular intervals. While the men last competed here in the 1990 World Cup , the Tofana has been an annual fixture in the women's World Cup calendar since 1993 . Usually there are at least three races in the downhill, super-G and giant slalom disciplines . The most successful athlete is Lindsey Vonn , who celebrated twelve World Cup victories at the Olimpia delle Tofane. On January 24, 2016, she replaced the long-time record winner Renate Götschl , who achieved 10 victories on the "Tofana".

Routing

The start of the descent is below the triumvirate of the Tofans at the Rifugio Pomedes refuge . The first striking point is the Tofanaschuss , a very steep slope next to a large rock. The Super-G starts at the right-hand bend at the Rifugio Duca d'Aosta . From here on the slope leads through wooded area. After a left curve with a jump, the two crossings Primo Muro and Secondo Muro with the giant slalom start, the Traverse Diagonale and the S curve La grande S , another key point. At the Passage Bus de ra Pales , the route leaves the forest again. There are long left and right bends to the finish line.
