The Stadio della neve ( German  snow stadium ) was a temporary cross-country skiing stadium in Cortina d'Ampezzo .

history

The Stadio della neve was built for the 1956 Winter Olympics and was located two kilometers south of the center of Cortina d'Ampezzo , in Campo di Sotto . During the games, it was the venue for cross-country skiing competitions and cross-country skiing in Nordic combined . The stadium was 250 meters long and 44 meters wide. The route ran from east to west, so that the grandstand was facing south so that the cameras could better film the departure into the stadium and the finish line against the sun. Tubular steel stands for 6,000 spectators were built on both long sides. There were a total of four entrances on the west side of the stadium. There was also a display board that provided information about the times of the athletes. The area inside the stadium was around 15,000 square meters and was divided lengthwise into three lanes with a width of 14 meters. The finish line was 35 meters from the east end of the stadium and was marked by a red string.

After the games, the stands were removed from the meadow.
