Árpád Varecza

Árpád Varecza (born September 6, 1941 in Vác ; † September 26, 2005 Nyíregyháza ) was a Hungarian mathematician and head of the mathematics department of the Nyíregyháza teacher training college.

Life

He was born on September 6, 1941 in Vác . In 1963 he graduated from the teacher training center in Szeged and then from the Eötvös Loránd University , which he graduated from the ELTE with a degree in mathematics - physics - engineering . He taught at the elementary school in Váchartyán and Verőce , then at the Géza Király high school in Vác. Árpád Varecza, university professor and retired director of the Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science of the Nyíregyháza Teacher Training College, was a prominent figure in the field of combinatorics here in Hungary . Árpád Varecza received a teaching diploma in mathematics from Loránd Eötvös University in Budapest . He began his teaching and research career at the college level in 1969 at György Bessenyei Teacher Training College as an assistant professor. In 1983 he became a full-time professor at the college. In 1975 he defended his doctoral thesis at Lajos Kossuth University in Debrecen . In 1982 he defended his academic thesis "Algorithms of Optimal Order" before the Hungarian Academy of Sciences . From 1984 until his retirement in 2000 he was the head of the mathematics department at Nyíregyháza University. From 1990 he was Vice Rector of the College for three years. In 1999 he was also founding director of the Institute for Mathematics and Computer Science at the university.

He specialized in combinatorics , including sorting algorithms . He completed his master's degree with his dissertation "Optimal Sorting Algorithms". Honorary Heir of the District Branch of the János Bolyai Mathematical Society .
