The Landro ( Italian Val di Landro ) is a 15 km long, from the Rienz by flossenes Alps -Tal in the east of South Tyrol ( Italy ).

The Höhlensteintal topographically separates the Sesto Dolomites with the Three Peaks Nature Park in the east from the Braies Dolomites with the Fanes-Senes- Braies Nature Park in the west. Linguistically it separates the German- speaking area from the Ladin-speaking area.

The valley begins at the northern drop of Monte Cristallo (3216 m) near Schluderbach (approx. 1450 m) at the Im Gemärk pass , which leads over to Cortina . After flowing through the Dürrensee , the Rienz passes the Dolomites cave, which gave the valley its name, and the valley between Dürrenstein (2839 m) in the west and Haunold (2966 m) in the east. In the lowest part of the valley lies the famous Dobbiaco Lake . The Höhlensteintal flows into the Pustertal at Toblacher Feld .

There are two fortifications of the Vallo Alpino ( Alpine wall in South Tyrol ) in the Höhlensteintal . One is located around Lake Dobbiaco, the other near Höhlenstein . The northern facility was expanded after 1945; it was included in the NATO defense concept. Traces of these fortifications still exist today.
