history

At the beginning of the 19th century was located on the site of today's Schluderbach a wood trading center, in accordance with the operating here coalfish Al Carbonin was called ( "When Kohler"). The farmer Hans Ploner, who came from Alt-Schluderbach ( Carbonin Vecchia ), a hamlet of Toblach near Niederdorf , opened an inn here. This house, soon known as “Beim Schluderbacher”, gave the place its name. Hans Ploner's son Georg, “Der Alte Schluderbacher”, established the hotel as one of the most important bases of the up-and-coming Dolomite alpinism. In 1872 he hired the brothers Hans and Michel Innerkofler as mountain guides , and other important alpinists of the time such as Santo Siorpaes led important tours from here, including many first ascents , the well-known guides attracted wealthy guests. Especially for tours to the Drei Zinnen , Schluderbach was the most important starting point at this time. Georg Ploner's daughter Anna was the first woman to reach the summit of the Großer Zinne in 1874 . Georg Ploner himself also had alpine successes, in 1879 he succeeded in the first ascent of the Western Zinne .

During the First World War , today's border between South Tyrol and the province of Belluno was roughly the course of the front between Austria and Italy from 1915 to 1917. The former state border ran south of Cortina via Sorapis, Passo Tre Croci, Monte Cristallo and was 1 km southeast of Schluderbach the "Grenzbrücke" back to the current border. Since the Cortina pocket could not be defended against the superior Italian forces, the front was withdrawn. The Dolomitenbahn between Toblach and Cortina, built during the war, provided Schluderbach with a connection to the rail network from 1917. The line was closed in 1962.

Today Schluderbach consists of only a few houses, mainly hotels and holiday homes, and is almost exclusively of importance as a holiday destination.
