The Toblacher See ( Italian: Lago di Dobbiaco ) is a small, originally rugged alpine lake, which is located in the Höhlensteintal at an altitude of 1259 m in the South Tyrolean municipality of Toblach . The Rienza is its inflow and outflow. The lake has a circumference of around 4.5 kilometers and its volume is estimated at 286,000 cubic meters. It is located in the Fanes-Senes-Braies Nature Park and is protected as a natural monument.
The lake was formed in ancient times as a result of numerous landslides that broke away from the mountains on the western shore of the lake.
Between 1983 and 1987 work was carried out to re-systematise the lake, mainly removing sediment, mainly in the southern part of the basin. For constant maintenance of the lake, the vegetation is cut and flooded vegetation is removed.
During the warmer months of the year, you can take a boat or pedalo tour on the lake. In the cold season, on the other hand, when the lake is completely frozen, you can do curling or ice skating instead.
There is a campsite and some restaurants near the lake.
Nature trail
A nature trail was laid out around the lake in spring 2000. On the route that runs along the lake shore, there are eleven different information boards about the nature surrounding the lake. The panels provide detailed information about the flora, fauna and geomorphology of the area near the lake. The walking time for the nature trail is around two hours.
particularities
There are five Italian bunkers around the lake , built in 1939 on the orders of Benito Mussolini to protect the Italian border. These structures belong to the Alpine Wall in South Tyrol , more precisely to the Höhlensteintal North barrier .
