At the XVI. During the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville , ten speed skating competitions were held. The venue was the specially constructed open-air artificial ice rink L'anneau de vitesse , which was used for other purposes at the end of the 1992 season. It was the last time the speed skating races were held in the open air. The first all-German Olympic team after reunification won eleven of the 30 medals. The outstanding runner was Gunda Niemann , who underscored her exceptional position with two golds and one silver.
