Susan Auch (born March 1, 1966 in Winnipeg , Manitoba ) is a former Canadian speed skater .

The father, Eberhard Auch, comes from the Rems-Murr district , the mother (Rosemarie Auch, née Kern) from Emmendingen ( Breisgau ). The parents immigrated to Canada in the 1950s and 1960s. Susan and her two siblings were already active in sports as children. They started out with the short track but then switched to speed skating. Winnipeg did not yet have an ice rink, so you had to train outdoors on frozen lakes. The reward for early activity came for Susan, qualifying on the short track for the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics . There she won the bronze medal in the team pursuit.

In 1989 she moved from Winnipeg ( Manitoba ) to Calgary to be able to train better. After several Canadian national sprint championships, he participated in the 1992 Winter Games in Albertville ( France ). She finished sixth in the 500 m sprint. Her brother Derrick finished 4th in the men's qualification and narrowly missed the Olympic qualification. In 1994, another Olympic medal followed in Lillehammer . She won silver in the 500 m sprint ahead of Franziska Schenk and after Bonnie Blair with a time of 39.61 s. Four years later, at the Winter Olympics in Nagano ( Japan ), she achieved the second major success of her career when she won the silver medal again, ahead of Tomomi Okazaki and after her teammate Catriona LeMay-Doan . Two runs were scored. She set the second best time with 38.42 and 38.51 s. Her brother Derrick was involved in the success of his two runners as the coach of the women's sprint team.

In 1999 Susan also announced her withdrawal from competitive sports. However, she later decided to take part in the 2002 Winter Games in Salt Lake City and thus took part in five Olympic Games. After these games, she finally ended her career.

She was also an athlete ambassador for the development aid organization Right to Play for the speed skating division.

She became the mother of twins in 2004 and worked as a real estate agent in Calgary , Alberta in 2006 .
