M-Wave ( Japanese エ ム ウ ェ ー ブ , Emu-wēbu ) is a multi-purpose hall in Nagano , Japan .

The hall was built in 1996 and can accommodate 18,000 spectators. In 1998, M-Wave was the venue for the speed skating competitions of the 1998 Winter Olympics , the opening and closing ceremonies of the 1998 Paralympics and the single-distance world championship in speed skating in 2008. The 230 m × 160 m hall has two movable grandstands. This allows the size of the inner surface to be varied. A rollable artificial turf enables the hall to be used for American football games.
